PPP to add 300 MW solar power to national grid

A public-private partnership project carried out in the Sabaragamuwa Province (SP) will add 300 MW generated by solar power to the national grid.

Under the project the first solar power generation in Sabaragamuwa Province was connected to the national grid by Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Champa Janaki Rajaratne at the Ratnapura Kumara Vidyalaya premises on Tuesday (19).

This solar power generation project is currently being implemented in all the seven provinces in the country including Sabaragamuwa. This is being implemented as a public-private joint project by the Provincial Councils of each province and Gala Green Energy Holdings. Accordingly, solar panels will be installed on the roofs of buildings belonging to State institutions including schools and hospitals in each province.

Sustainable power generation other systems will also be installed within the premises of the relevant generation institutions and the electricity generated through these projects will also be added to the national grid.

The entire cost of this will be borne by Gala Green Energy Holdings. About 16 percent of the money earned from the electricity generated under these projects will be given to the respective Provincial Councils on a monthly basis.

Gala Green Energy Holdings is spending US$ 200 million for this solar power electricity generation projects implemented throughout Sri Lanka. The entire electricity generation of the project will be 300 megawatts.

An art exhibition on renewable energy sources was also held among schoolchildren in the Ratnapura district at Ratnapura Kumara Vidyalaya.
