The preliminary objections in the case filed by the Attorney General against former ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando, and retired Army Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi, has been postponed until March 25, the Colombo High Court ruled today.
The Bribery Commission charged two former ministers with misappropriating Rs. 53.1 million between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, 2014, during the import of 14,000 carrom boards and 11,000 draughts boards for distribution to sports clubs.
Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, while former Minister Nalin Fernando received a 25-year sentence by the High Court last year.
Both have filed appeals with the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn their convictions and be acquitted of all charges. (Newswire)
