President Wickremesinghe should be re-elected – Eastern Province Governor Thondaman

Eastern Province Governor Sendhil Thondaman says that President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who brought the country from the crisis to normalcy in a very short time, should be given another term to take this programme further.

He said that President Wickremasinghe became President for a short period of two years, and if he had not been appointed, there would have been no end to the fuel and gas queues in this country. He has already proven that he can provide solutions to the country’s problems, Gov. Thondaman said. Gov. Thondaman was addressing the media on Saturday (2), following his visits to the Mahanayaka Theras of Malwatte and Asgiri Chapters of the Maha Vihara Sangha. Gov. Thondaman said that, after the end of the 30-year war, still some doubts remain among the Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim elders living in the East, and his aim is to alleviate them and establish harmony among all races. He stressed that such doubts do not exist among the younger generation.

He said that his aim is to build an environment where the Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people of this country can live in peace and harmony. A number of special programmes need to be implemented to create harmony between the people of the Eastern Province and other Provinces of the island, he says.
