The Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake said all the candidates who contested the recent Presidential Election are required to submit their campaign expense reports to the Election Commission on or before October 13. All the 38 Presidential candidates had been informed that their election campaign expense reports must be submitted within 21 days from the day the election results were announced.

The Election Commission stated that once all the election campaign expense reports from the 38 Presidential candidates are received, they will be released for public viewing. If the campaign expense reports of any of the 38 candidates have any discrepancies, any individual can file a complaint with the Police which should be backed by proper evidence documented.

New campaign expense laws were introduced by the Election Commission that were enforced for the 2024 Presidential Election setting the maximum campaign expenditure per voter at Rs.109 by each candidate. Therefore, for the 17,140,354 eligible voters in the electorate, the maximum amount that can be spent by each Presidential candidate on their campaigning was set at Rs.1.86 billion.

Each candidate was permitted to spend 60 percent out of this total expenditure amount which amounted to Rs.1.12 billion for their entire election campaign and for recognized political parties, the campaign expenditure amount that could be spent was limited to 40 percent of the total which amounted to Rs.740 million, based on the new campaign expenditure laws introduced by the Election Commission.
