Prison to be set up on Mantheevu island

The government has decided to use the Mantheevu island to set up a prison or a rehabilitation centre as a solution for the current congestion in the prisons, it was stated  in Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reforms statement.

Mantheevu is an island in the Eastern Province with 100 acres in extent.

The Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha was on an observation tour of the island recently.
