Public to be made aware of former leaders’ luxurious lives despite people’s hardships – NPP

K.D. Lalkantha, an Executive Committee member of the National People’s Power (NPP), emphasized that the public should be made aware of how their leaders have lived luxurious lives despite the hardships faced by the people due to the failures of those very leaders.

He mentioned that former Presidential residences will be opened to the public to have an idea about privileges, and that there are reports suggesting that some individuals are hurriedly relocating assets from these official residences in fear of this exposure.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Devon Rest in Kandy yesterday (3), Lalkantha criticized how political leaders in the country have misused public resources. He stated that many citizens are unaware of the extent to which politicians have exploited State assets and that the NPP plans to hold further exhibitions to expose these practices. He pointed out that those who indulged in these luxuries at the expense of public funds might find this scrutiny uncomfortable.

Lalkantha also commented on recent actions taken by the President, alleging that close associates had been appointed to irrelevant positions, with the provision of official vehicles.

He queried whether it was wrong for the public to be informed of such activities and stressed that corruption should be exposed and those responsible should be held accountable. He ended by noting that many politicians might feel “thorns in their flesh” as a result of these revelations. Former Kandy Municipal Councilor Chandrasiri Wijenayake also participated in the event.
