Quazi judge accepting bribe held in Dematagoda

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said that a judge of the Quazi Court, Colombo North was taken into custody while accepting a bribe of Rs.7,500 from an individual, in his office.

The suspect was taken into custody based on a complaint made by a person from Mawanella.

The complainant had filed a case at the Quazi Court to separate from his second wife to whom he had been legally married. The judge had asked for Rs. 7,500 to issue the divorce certificate.

CIABOC said that the judge was arrested at the North Colombo Quazi Court in Dematagoda when he was in the act of accepting the bribe.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. CIABOC is carrying out investigations.
