Ramya Wanigasekera passes away

Ramya Wanigasekera, a veteran radio news presenter and actress, has passed away at the age of 73, after a brief illness.

Hailing from Kotiyakumbura, Wanigasekera made a lasting impact on the Sri Lankan radio industry as a news presenter for more than 20 years.

In addition to her successful career in radio, she also demonstrated her remarkable acting abilities on stage, in cinema, and on television. One of her most memorable performances was as Matilda in the film Kelani Palama, directed by her husband, the artist R. R. Samarakoon.
