Ranil can rebuild country, revive economy – Lanza
Gampaha district Parliamentarian Nimal Lanza said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only leader with international backing and necessary experience to get the country out of the present economic quagmire.
Addressing an election rally in Ja-Ela on Friday, Lanza said that former Presidents Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa should take responsibility for the economic crisis in the country. “Many of us on the stage strived to bring them into power but they left us and the people in a greater difficulty.”
The Parliamentarian said President Wickremesinghe is the only leader who has come forward to rescue the country from an unprecedented economic crisis. “Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and NPP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake were invited to assume the responsibility of steering the country through this crisis. But they showed reluctance to embrace the challenge.”
Lanza said that people of all communities should show their gratitude to the President at this point of time. “The time has come for them to show their gratitude to the President who steered the country out of an unprecedented economic crisis. “No one came forward to accept the challenge of leading the country when there was no fuel at filling stations, medicine at hospitals, and fertiliser for farmers. People were dying without medicine,” he said.
The Parliamentarian said that the people are well aware about the situation that prevailed in the country two years ago. “I was a member of a delegation that held discussed with the Opposition Leader, urging him to take on the responsibility of leading the country. He promptly declined the request.”
Lanza said that the country has fuel, gas, uninterrupted electricity supply, and fertiliser after President Wickremesinghe assumed duties as President. “The country returned to normal. Schools were reopened and steps were taken to hold examinations.”
He said that the country cannot be revived without international support. “Those who are boasting on election stages are not capable of leading a country.”
Lanza added that the SJB Presidential Candidate is travelling across the country sharing humour and making commitments that are impossible to fulfil under any circumstances. The Parliamentarian said that President Wickremesinghe is ahead of other candidates in the fray even though his Presidential Election campaign started recently, “He is the only leader who can rebuild the country. The people of all communities irrespective of their political affiliation should support him at this Presidential Election for the sake of the country.”
