Reason for Keeri Samba shortage revealed

These days there is a huge shortage of Keeri Samba rice in the market, but that shortage is artificially created by the rice mafia in our country. Even though there is sufficient stock of Keeri Samba rice in the country, some rice mill owners have reduced the supply of Keeri Samba rice to the market by hiding the rice stocks. Although the cultivation of keeri samba in the last Yala season has decreased, due to the cultivation of keeri samba in the previous Maha season, there has been no reduction in the stock of paddy and rice.

Although the government has set a control price for selling Keeri Samba rice, some businessmen are working to sell Keeri Samba rice at a price of 305-310 rupees per kilo in these days.

But there is no shortage of rice such as Nadu rice and red green rice, which are consumed by the majority of people, and there is enough stock of rice and paddy in the country.

At present, private rice mill owners and rice businessmen have enough keeri samba paddy and rice stocks, but they have deliberately reduced the supply of keeri samba to the market in order to avoid raising the price of rice.

Commenting on this, the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries,  Mahinda Amaraweera said that the raids are led by the Consumer Protection Authority, but many businessmen are secretly engaged in the sale of keeri samba at high prices.

Because of this, the minister has instructed the agriculture department to encourage the farmers to grow more keeri samba in this maha season.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture has handed over a report on the amount of glucose in rice to the minister.

According to that report, it has also been revealed that Keeri Samba is the type of rice that contains the highest amount of glucose among the rice consumed in our country. It has been shown that due to eating more Keeri Samba rice in particular, there is a tendency to increase the blood sugar level and therefore this rice causes the diabetes to worsen.

But the report has also shown that the rice species with the lowest glucose level are rice species with bran.
