
The Road Development Authority (RDA) said that although revenue collection on expressways started two hours late due to the strike carried out by Expressway workers on November 22 based on several demands, the revenue has increased compared to the revenue on Wednesday 15 of last week. A senior RDA officer told Daily News that with the intervention of the Army officers, revenue collection was done with the initiation of the strike action by expressway employees who reported sick leave and did not report for work. The official said that expressways had collected an income of 23,028,700.00 rupees from 7 am to 7 pm on the 21st and 21,044,755.00 rupees had been earned on the 22nd from 9 am to 7 pm. It was said that 22,877,500.00 rupees had been earned from 7 am to 7 pm last Wednesday (15). The official said that on November 22 when the trade union strike action was carried out, officers of the Security Forces were deployed systematically and started collecting money, and if considered that toll collection began at 8 am, the same three days from 8 am to 7 pm, total revenue earned was Rs.21 million for each day. Accordingly, on November 22 when the strike was launched, the income received from 9 am to 7 pm was Rs. 21,044,755.00 and on 21, the income earned by highway workers from 8 am to 7 pm was Rs. 21,107,350.00 Similarly, on Wednesday of the previous week (15) the official said that the income from 8 am to 7 pm was 21,030,900.00 rupees.
He said that the friendly service of the Security Forces personnel was highly praised by the highway users and said that their service was highly appreciated in the social media and other media as well. He further said that although charging highway users began two hours later after the strike action commenced on November 22, the same income as the previous day was collected. The officer further said that with the launching of trade union strike action, the Security Forces were immediately called upon the instructions of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, and accordingly, collection of revenue from highway users began two hours later and it was still possible to earn a similar amount of revenue compared to the previous days.
