Details have been revealed by the President’s Office on the allocation of state-owned vehicles that had been recently returned following the change in regime with the election of President Anura Kumara Dissanayke, and the dissolution of Parliament.

In a statement issued by the President’s Office, it has been stated that the returned vehicles had been parked outside the Presidential Secretariat under Police protection due to lack of space inside the premises to accommodate all of them. A total of 107 vehicles had been provided for officials who had been given private appointments by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe as his private staff members under the powers vested in him according to Section 41(1) of the Constitution and these vehicles are not ones provided for the permanent staff members employed at the Presidential Secretariat.

While stating that it was not the intention of the new Government to exhibit the returned state vehicles, the President’s Office said that under the directive of President Dissanayake, steps and measures are being taken to immediately allocate these vehicles for Essential Services.

Accordingly, in order to ensure transparency and accuracy, a complete list providing details of the vehicles that had been returned from September 21 to 24, with the names of the officials they had been assigned to, has been already issued by the President’s Office.
