Following a discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and large-scale rice mill owners regarding the rice shortage, rice stocks had started arriving at the Dambulla Economic Center (EC) yesterday (8) morning.
Several shops in Dambulla town were seen selling Nadu and other varieties of rice at controlled prices. Additionally, lorry loads of rice arriving from the Polonnaruwa area were observed being delivered to shops early in the morning. Notably, some of these stocks had controlled prices printed on them.
While some shops in Dambulla sold rice at Rs.225 to Rs.230 per kilogramme, certain shop owners stated that some mill owners had not reduced wholesale prices, compelling them to sell Nadu rice at Rs. 250 per kilogram. Meanwhile, coconuts were being sold along roadsides and in various locations within the town, priced between Rs.140 and Rs.170 each.
