The Royal College Table Tennis team, under the leadership of Thumal Adikari, emerged as champions in a hard-fought final against Ananda College during the All Island Inter-school Table Tennis Team Championships 2023.

The prestigious tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Table Tennis Association, took place at the Indoor Stadium in Bandaragama last week. After a remarkable performance, the Royalists secured a 3-2 victory against their formidable opponents, Anandians, to claim the coveted A Division Championship. The three-day competition saw the participation of nearly

1,000 players from over 120 schools across the island.

In the finals, Royal College’s rising star and Sri Lanka Youth Player, Janith Batugedera, delivered outstanding performances by defeating both of his opponents. Additionally, Diren Hamer contributed with a notable victory, further solidifying the team’s triumph.

Earlier in the tournament, the Blue and Gold ping pong players demonstrated their prowess by defeating the reigning champions, Kingswood College, with a commanding 3-0 victory in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, the Royalists faced their own ‘B’ team, whom they defeated with the same score, showcasing the team’s exceptional cohesion and skill. In addition to their remarkable victory in the A Division, the Reid Avenue players had already clinched the coveted Under-19 title earlier in the year, highlighting their dominance in the sport. Moreover, Royal College achieved an impressive 3rd place finish in the under 12 category, further underscoring the depth of their talent pool.
