The Galle Karapitiya Maternity Hospital built at a cost of Rs. 3,570 million will be completed by the end of this year. This six-storey maternity hospital has 646 beds, six operating theaters, emergency recovery units, intensive care units,
laboratories, infant intensive care units, special children’s units, and all modern medical facilities and a waste water purification unit.
The loan to construct the hospital has been provided by the German government. In addition to that, medical equipment has also been provided. Health Ministry’s Engineering Services Additional Secretary Salinda Bandara who visited the site yesterday (17) to inspect the construction, said that the construction work has been completed by around 80 percent.
