Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunwardhana yesterday said that the Transport Ministry in coordination with the Motor Traffic Commissioner has formulated the relevant rules and regulations to register electric three-wheelers in Sri Lanka.

He added that relevant specifications have been prepared by the Department of Motor Traffic   regarding the related standards and safety methods to be applied.

The Minister was speaking at the opening of a centre where three-wheelers manufactured by Vega Innovations are converted use electricity instead of fossil fuels, in Kollupitiya. This centre also provides charging facilities for these three-wheelers.

Charging facilities that can charge low-capacity motorcycles, three-wheelers and other electric vehicles in a short period of time have been installed at this facility. A three-wheeler can be fully charged in less than an hour.

Technical facilities to charge vehicles including three-wheelers and make related payments are also provided to the consumers at this location through a mobile phone application without the use of money.

In the future, Vega Innovations has planned activities to provide these facilities to all charging stations throughout the island.

An office to provide easy financing facilities in collaboration with CDB is also operational at this facility for the conversion of tricycles running on fuel to electricity.

Under that, any customer will have the convenience of coming to this place, getting the necessary financial facilities and converting their three-wheelers to use electricity within a short period of time.
