0 6

The Russian Government on Tuesday announced the grant of a consignment of potash to fertilise food crops with an objective of boosting Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.

Russia said that this shipment of potash sent as a humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka, was unlawfully detained in Latvia under the pretext of Russian exports. Russian Envoy in Colombo Levan S. Dzhagaryan said that measures are being taken to facilitate prompt delivery of the potash shipment to Colombo.

He was of the view that global food security is at stake as a result of illegal and inhumane sanctions being imposed by the European countries supporting Ukraine.

“Such practices bearing neocolonial nature is detrimental to the Global South and African countries”, he said.

Commenting on the Presidential Election in Sri Lanka to be held on September 21, the Russian Envoy said that the Russian Government will never intervene in internal affairs of the country. “We don’t meddle with internal affairs of any country and we are willing to work with any person or Government that comes into power. We have never and will never intervene in the internal affairs of another country”, he said.

The Russian Envoy was speaking at a press conference to mark the 120th anniversary of TASS, Russia’s first news agency and International Day of Journalists’ Solidarity, at the Russian Cultural Centre in Colombo on Tuesday.

He said that an operation is going on against the Ukrainian Forces in the Kursk region and majority of the forces are mercenaries from France, Georgia, Germany and a number of other countries in Europe.

He added that Russian Forces are progressing in Donbas acquiring more areas and the war against Ukraine is not aimed at civilians of Ukraine.

The ambassador also condemned the barbaric drone and missile attacks by the Kiev regime on Russia terrorising civilians. The ambassador said that Russia is fighting with the collective West. “If we were to engage in combat solely against Ukrainian Forces, we could have finished it within a very short span of time. He said that Russia will definitely win the war. “It is very dangerous to confront nuclear power and the West should understand this unequivocally”, he said.

“Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wanted to continue the war when Russia was prepared to have a peace deal with Ukraine. The sovereign rights of European countries have lost as they are manipulated by the United States”, he said. The Envoy said that the economy of the European countries is at stake as they have started purchasing LNG from the United States at a very higher rate instead of Russian LNG which is cheaper than any other country.

First Secretary of Russian Embassy and Director of Russia Centre Maria Popova said that her Centre has taken a number of initiatives to familiarise modern Russian literature among Sri Lankans specially among children. Deputy Head of Mission Alexander Yu Dyagilev and Press Counsellor German I Fedorov and Chief Executive Officer of Russian Centre Buddhipriya Ramanayake were present.
