The Supreme Court yesterday (17) dismissed three Fundamental Rights petitions filed by three Aragalaya activists demanding to declare that the Police
violated their fundamental rights by arresting them during the demonstration held near former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s Mirihana residence on March 31, 2022.
The Supreme Court rejected the petitions by accepting the preliminary objections raised by Shaminda Wickrema, the senior lawyer who represented the Attorney General against the relevant petitions.
Attorney Shaminda Wickrema presented several preliminary objections regarding these petitions.
He submitted that these petitions have not been submitted within the prescribed period.
He also pointed out that several essential parties have not been named as respondents in these petitions.
He also pointed out that the petitioners have submitted these petitions hiding the true information.
