SC dismisses petition against General Election

0 5

The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed the petition filed challenging the decision to hold the General Election on November 14.

The Supreme Court decided to dismiss the petition without hearing filed by H.M. Priyantha Herath, the convener of ‘Api Sri Lanka National Organization’, requesting that the holding of this year’s General Election on November 14 violates the fundamental rights of the people of Sri Lanka.

This order was issued after considering the facts presented by the Attorney General that the date for the election has been properly set and that the activities related to the polls have almost been completed by now and the postal voting has already begun.

The three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Shiran Gunaratne and Priyantha Fernando ordered the petition to be dismissed without taking it up for hearing after considering the facts presented.
