The Education Ministry once again instructed principals to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety of students, especially avoiding direct exposure to strong sunlight.

Accordingly, Health sector experts advised that children may suffer from various side effects due to the dry weather conditions and intense sunlight experiencing these days.

Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Channa de Silva urged parents not to send children to outdoor areas during strong sunlight. He emphasised that if this dry weather conditions and intense sunlight situation develops further, there is a risk of heat shock or heat stress.

Due to intense sunlight and dry weather conditions, especially children, elderly people and patients are more likely to suffer from heat stroke or heat shock. To avoid this condition, it is useful to drink as much water as possible and avoid direct exposure to strong sunlight.
