SDIG Karavita to oversee election security

Senior DIG Asanka Karavita has been appointed to handle the security and Police coordination related to the election.

Asanka Karavita has also been appointed as the Police authority to deal with the security of the candidates competing in the Presidential Election this year.

With the attack targeting US Presidential candidate Donald Trump, the Cabinet paid special attention to the security of the candidates at the upcoming Presidential Election. Accordingly based on the decision made by the Cabinet, Police will take special measures to deal with the security of the candidates who will contest the upcoming Presidential Election.

Information from Police headquarters stated that the authorities have taken steps to appoint Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Asanka Karavita to act on those matters as well as regarding the security of the election.

Information from Police headquarters also stated that two operation centers are to be established for the upcoming election. One centre will coordinate the security of the candidates while the other centre will look into the issues related to the election.

The operation center for coordinating the security of the candidates will be established in the Suhurupaya building where the Public Security Ministry is located and the operation room for the coordination of election-related activities will be established at the police headquarters.
