SDIG Thennakoon appointed Acting IGP

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Senior Deputy Inspector General Deshabandhu Thennakoon as Acting Inspector General (IGP) in accordance with the powers assigned to the President by the Constitution.

The appointment has been made for a period of three months from yesterday (29), Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Nihal Thalduwa said.

This appointment has been made to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of C.D.Wickramaratne from the post of Inspector General. Thennakoon joined the Police Service as an apprentice Assistant Superintendent of Police on February 23, 1998.

He has been in charge of divisions as an Assistant Superintendent and was promoted to the position of Superintendent in 2006 and was promoted Senior Superintendent of Police in 2011.

He has served in many police divisions as SSP and was promoted a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2015. He was promoted to the position of Senior DIG on November 20, 2019.

From December 5,2019, Thennakoon served as the Senior Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Western Province until now.
