Karandeniya Police and Elpitiya Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have started a comprehensive investigation regarding a missing T-56 weapon from the armoury of the Agriculture and Livestock Corps camp in Karandeniya.
Police information revealed that the T-56 weapon bearing the number 3720123 is missing. A second lieutenant in charge of the camp has reported to Karandeniya Police that the theft took place between October 4 and October 6.
It is stated that this weapon was released from the armoury at 2.00 pm on October 4 for a funeral parade and it was recorded that it was received by the armory assistant at 6.30 pm that day. During the investigation regarding the misplacement of this weapon, the Officer in Charge of the Karandeniya Police found 14 cases of T-56 ammunition hidden in the campsite.
The Police say that some suspicions have been raised in this regard and an investigation is underway regarding that.
