The President’s Secretary has once again informed the Speaker in a letter that the secret evidence notes about the Easter Sunday attack cannot be opened to the public in order to protect the privacy of the individuals who made evidences and the information can only be accessed by the Members of Parliament under the supervision of the Secretary General of the Parliament.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Parliament yesterday (21) that the President’s Secretary informed this in a letter sent on September 12.
The Speaker also said that the President’s Secretary has informed that he will have to do so in order to protect the identity of the relevant witnesses. The Speaker said this while making a special statement regarding the report of the Presidential Commission on the Easter Sunday attack. The Speaker said that certain electronic and printed media are spreading false information regarding the non-opening of the confidential documents of the Presidential Commission report on the Easter Sunday attack to the public.
Six Compact Disks prepared in Read Only format including the entire volumes 2-I to 5 including the confidential evidence contained in the volumes 2-II and 2-III of the evidence notes were handed over, in which the Speaker also said that the included Volumes 2-II and 2-III have been made available for the reference of the Members of Parliament only under the supervision of the Secretary General of the Parliament.
