The Western Province Tourism Board plans to run the Seethawaka Odyssey luxury train on Saturdays as well from August 5.
The Seethawaka Odyssey Tourist Train jointly operated by the Western Province Tourism Board and the Sri Lanka Railway Department which operated on Sunday, will operate on Saturday as well, under the theme ‘Shanida Seethawaka Odyssey’.
Based on the success of the Seethawaka Odyssey luxury tourist train, which operated only on Sundays for more than six months, the Western Provincial Tourism Board has decided to operate it on Saturdays as well.
This luxury train allows tourists to travel from Colombo to the Seethawaka tourist area in a very short time. With the train running on Saturdays as well, this programme, which has been operating as a day trip to the Seethawaka Tourist Zone, will be transformed into a full tour with a night stay.
Western Province Tourism Board Chairman Sugath Hewapathirana said that the purpose of running the train on both Saturday and Sunday during the weekend is to provide a complete tour experience for both local and foreign tourists.
He also points out that the aim is to directly contribute to the generation of foreign exchange by promoting unknown tourist destinations in the Western Province, attracting not only locals, but also foreign tourists.
