Senior lawyer S. K. Sangakkara passed away

Senior lawyer S. K. Sangakkara has passed away, family sources said.

An Attorney-at-Law and a respected legal practitioner in Kandy, Sangakkara was widely known in legal circles and the community. He was also the father of legendary Sri Lankan cricketer and former national captain Kumar Sangakkara.

He is survived by his wife Kumarie, children Thusharie, Vemindra, Saranga and Kumar, as well as his sons- and daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

His remains will lie at his residence in Kandy for relatives and friends to pay their last respects. The family has requested privacy during this period of mourning.

The funeral will take place on March 4, 2026 at 6.00 p.m. at the Mahaiyawa Cemetery in Kandy. The cortege will leave the residence at 4.30 p.m. (Newswire)
