Sergeant among seven arrested for treasure hunting in Welioya

A team of Welioya Police officers have arrested seven people including a police sergeant who were excavating for treasure in a cave in Monarawewa, Welioya.

The police sergeant is a 52-year-old person attached to the Police Headquarters.

He is a resident of Banduragoda in Mirigama and the other suspects arrested with him are residents of Padaviya Sri Tissapura, Weyangoda Marapola, Minuwangoda Dewalapola, Pannatta Atadombagaraya, Minuwangoda and Naiwala.

In addition to these suspects, the police say that the owner of the property in which they were excavating is also among the arrested suspects.

The suspects are to be produced in court.
