Sergeant, PC get two years’ RI for stealing

Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday sentenced a Sergeant and a Constable of the Kollupitiya Police who were found guilty of stealing Rs.2,000 along with a pack of cigarettes from a Chinese national while on duty patrol at night to two years’ rigorous imprisonment.

The incident had happened in 2016. The Chinese national had complained that two Police officers who were on patrol had robbed money and a pack of cigarettes he had.

A sergeant named Lafir and a constable named Duminda, who are currently serving in the Vanathawilluwa Police, were convicted and sentenced to prison in a case that had been pending for a long time.
