Sexual bribe seeking OIC remanded in Kalmunai
The Kalmunai Police’s Case Management Unit OIC was arrested in a hotel room in Kalmunai yesterday (22) at around 7 p.m. when he was about to solicit a sexual bribe from a woman.
A 33-year-old resident of Eragama, Ampara from whom the sexual bribery was sought invited the officer to the hotel room. The woman informed about it in advance to the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission. The Bribery Commission investigating officers arrested the suspect when he was about to enter the room, Police sources said.
Police say that the woman was arrested by Police for trying to obtain money by threatening another woman’s husband that some nude photos would be published. These photos belonged to her mother’s sister’s daughter. Police information revealed that she had published the nude photos on social media due to non-payment of the ransom.
Ampara Police Children and Women’s Bureau arrested this woman and handed her over to the Kalmunai Police station a few months ago.
A senior Police officer stated that the woman was remanded after being produced in the Kalmunai Court and was later released on bail. Court has imposed a condition that she must appear before the Kalmunai Police once a week and sign in a book. Sources of the Bribery Commission stated that the official asked for a sexual bribe from this woman stating that the Court order to appear before Police once a week can be changed as once a month and also she can be released from the case. The relevant case was scheduled to be heard in Kalmunai Court yesterday (22). The Case Operation Division OIC has informed that in order to provide relief, she should offer him sexual favour before the case.
The officer had asked her to come to the hotel by 6 p.m. Accordingly, the officials of the Bribery Commission arrested the Police officer inside the room.This suspect was remanded until December 5 after being produced in Samanthurai Magistrate’s Court.
