SF makes cash deposit to contest Prez polls as independent candidate

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka made a cash deposit yesterday (05), to contest in the 2024 Presidential Election as an independent candidate. According to the Election Commission (EC) sources, a person called Dhammika Ratnayake has made the cash deposit on behalf of Field Marshal Fonseka. Fonseka officially announced his Presidential candidacy on July 25 stating that a large number of people were asking him to contest the Presidential Election.

The former Army Commander contested the 2010 Presidential Election as the common opposition candidate, contesting against then President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Under his command the Sri Lankan Army ended the three-decade-old terrorism of the LTTE in 2009. He thereafter briefly served as the Chief of Defence Staff.
