Shanmugam Kugathasan sworn in as Member of Parliament

Mr. Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan was sworn in as a member of the 9th Parliament before the Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana today (09).

Following the Oath affirmation before the Speaker, the Hon. Member signed the Member Roll kept before the Secretary General of the Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera.

Hon. Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan was appointed to fill the vacancy created due to the demise of Hon. Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, a former leader of the opposition in the Parliament of Sri Lanka and leader of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK).

Hon. Shanmugam Kugathasan completed his higher education from the university of Colombo and Madurai Kamaraj University, India.

He has been a member of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi Party since 1975 and has been working as the Trincomalee District Leader of the party since 2018. He has also worked as the Eastern Province Development Affairs Coordinator under the Ministry of National Policy, Economic Affairs and Resettlement.

Furthermore, in the previous parliamentary election, he represented the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi and participated for the election representing the Trincomalee district.

The Election Commission published the gazette notification No. 2391/14 regarding the appointment of Hon. Kathiravelu Shanmugam Kugathasan on the 02nd of July.
