Shevon guides SL U-19 to win World Cup warm up game
Opener Shevon Daniel, who scored 75 off 72 balls, hit eight fours and a six guided Sri Lanka under 19’s to beat Ireland under 19’s by 128 runs in their Under 19 World Cup warm-up game which was played at Providence Stadium Guyana yesterday.
Sri Lanka under 19’s put into bat first made 233 for 7 wickets in 43 overs. Daniel the left-hander was in fine form to get 75 runs finally retired while Ranuda Somaratne hit 33 in 30 balls with two sixes.
Ireland chasing a target of 234 runs were bowled out for 105 in 31.4 overs. Wicketkeeper batter Joshua Cox top-scored 44 in 83 balls hitting two fours while others were unable to make good knocks. Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanuja Sahan was the most successful bowler finishing with figures of 3 for 5 in a 4-over spell while Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Raveen de Silva, and Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets each. However, Sri Lankan bowlers conceded 22 extras including 19 wides while Ireland bowlers conceded 30 extras with 24 wides.
Sri Lanka under 19’s will play their second warm-up game against Uganda today (12) at the same venue.
