Siblings succumb in jeep plunge over Kamburapola bridge

Two brothers were killed after their jeep ran off the road and plunged into the Bujgamuwa oya near the Kamburapola bridge on the Kuliyapitiya-Hettipola Road early Saturday morning.

The victims were identified as two brothers of a family in Kurunegala, Nirmal Dhananjaya Abeyratne (27) and his younger brother Ishantha Piyumal Abeyratne (25).

The victims are two of the three children of a well-known business family that owns many businesses in the including poultry farms in the Kobeigane area. They had been returning home after attending an event at a hotel in Wennappuwa. Initial investigations revealed that the jeep had probably plunged into the stream after it went out of control near the bridge due to excessive speed. Kuliyapitiya police are conducting further investigations.
