Chanithma Sinaly emerged victorious in the Under-19 Plate Championship Title, while Ifra Booso gave a commendable performance to secure the Under-13 Plate Runner-up position at the 30th Asian Junior Squash Championship, which concluded yesterday in Dalian, China.
Chanithma Sinaly, a rising star from Sirmavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, secured the Under-19 Plate Championship Title with a convincing 3-0 victory in the Plate Final. Sinaly exhibited impeccable skill anddetermination to outclass her opponent, Yeung Wai Leng of Macao, with a scoreline reading 11-6, 12-10, and 11-6 in her favor.
The remarkable performance by top seeded Chanithma Sinaly has already earned her a spot in the forthcoming Asian Games, scheduled to be held next month in China. Sinaly will be the sole female representative from Sri Lanka in the three-member Asian Games squash team alongside Shamil Wakeel and Ravindu Laksiri.
Sri Lanka’s Ifra Shasman Booso put up a valiant fight to secure the Under-13 Plate Runner-up position. Booso, a student of St Paul’s Milagiriya, faced off against Japan’s Emily Senior in a captivating four-set encounter. Despite her spirited effort, Booso was eventually bested by Senior, with the scoreline reading 11-8, 13-15, 11-8, and 11-3 in favour of the Japanese contender.
