Sineth leads Sri Lanka under 19 team for Asia Cup

Sri Lanka under 19 team led by Sineth Jayawardena will take part in the Men’s Under19 Asia Cup cricket tournament which will be held from December 8 to 17 with Dubai hosting the event.

India the defending champions will take on Afghanistan in the opening match of the event on December 8. Meanwhile, Pakistan will also be seen in action as they face Nepal in the second match of U19 Asia Cup. A total of eight teams will be participating in the upcoming competition

The nations have been divided into two groups of four teams each. Defending champions India have been clubbed alongside Nepal, Afghanistan and arch-rivals Pakistan in Group A.

Group B, on the other hand, consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Japan and hosts UAE. It is worth noting that Nepal, UAE and Japan joined the competition owing to the top three rankings (outside regular members) they secured on their path towards the tournament.

Three different venues in Dubai have been assigned to stage all 15 matches of the competition, namely the ICC Academy Oval-1, ICC Academy Oval-2 and the Dubai International Cricket Stadium

Sri Lanka team already in good form beating West Indies in Sri Lanka while they beat Pakistan in Lahore and hope to make better show at this Asia Cup.In fact this Asia Cup is good exposure for all teams before the under 19 world cup which will be hosted by South Africa from next January. Earlier Under 19 world cup scheduled to be hosted in Sri Lanka but due to SLC suspension it has moved to South Africa

Sri Lanka under 19 team currently undergoing training at Pallekele International cricket stadium and their residential training period is very successful added senior member of the Team management. The team will come back to Colombo on November 30 and is scheduled to depart on December 4 the However Daily News learnt that Sri Lanka under 19 team so far not got Sports Ministry approval and the team list already sent to the Ministry.

Jehan Mubarak is the National under 19 team head coach while Sampath Perera Assistant coach ,Fast bowling coach Chamila Gamage,Spin coach Sachith Pathirana and fielding coach Gayan Wijekoon are with the supporting staff ..Former Sri Lankan player Jayantha Seneviratne once again was appointed as Under 19 team Manager.
