Sinhagiri with EWIZ computers to assemble SL’s first digital TV
Creating a historic landmark in the electrical segment of Sri Lanka, Sinhagiri Ltd teamed up with EWIZ computers to assemble Sri Lanka’s first digital television. It would be sold and marked under a new brand name SGL with the tag ‘Made in Sri Lanka.
‘”We will be initially assembling the popular 43 inch TV series and then move up to the other high demand sizes like 40 inch and 50 inch,” said CEO Sinhagiri Ltd, Maheshi Anandasiri.The SGL 43 inch TV would be inbuilt with several features such as E Thaksalawa education program, 16 GB memory (the current imported memory is around 8GB) and several other novel features customized to meet local standards. She also said that Sinhagiri has over 50 years experience in the electronics segment having first locally assembled radios and then being the first in bringing brands like Samsung to Sri Lanka when the brand was new. “We hope to market the first locally assembled TV in a few months.”
She said that they will also look at exporting these products in the future to African countries. Meanwhile EWIZ Chairman Sanjeewa Wickramanayake speaking to Daily News Business after signing the MoU with Sinhagiri said that they have already introduced several locally assembled products in the computer, mobile and other electrical segments to the Sri Lankan market from their factory in Hambantota when many thought that these products could not be made or assembles in Sri Lanka.
“Though many raised eyebrows and even victimized me for investing in Hambantota I selected this rural area since it had an international port and airport, a highway and most importantly a huge untapped and talented pool of HR resources.
We will also look at increasing value addition for the SGL TV with its back over/casing to be made in Sri Lanka.” He welcomed initiatives like this to assemble products of this nature in Sri Lankan not only saving forex but also creating high paying jobs to assemblers where in China fetches a salary of around USD 450 a month for a person.
