Six firms express interest in buying stake in SriLankan Airlines

The State-Owned Enterprise Restructuring Unit (SOERU) operating under the Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies Ministry has made public the names of the six companies that have submitted their proposals expressing their interest in investing in SriLankan Airlines.

In response to the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) calling through the Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies Ministry on October 31, 2023 via local and international media for Request for Qualification (RfQ) from potential investors, both local and foreign, to buy shares in the national carrier SriLankan Airlines, these six companies have submitted their RfQs by the deadline yesterday (22).

Accordingly, AirAsia Consulting Sdn. Bhd., Dharshaan Elite Investment Holding (Pvt) Ltd, FITS Aviation (Pvt) Ltd, Sherisha Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, Treasure Republic Guardians Ltd and Hayleys PLC have expressed their interest in acquiring shares of SriLankan Airlines the SOERU said.

Among the six companies that have forwarded their proposals are a Malaysian company and a Sri Lankan company. Hayleys PLC, a diversified conglomerate in Sri Lanka, is the sole Sri Lankan company that has expressed its interest in buying shares of SriLankan Airlines.

The six RfQs that have been received were considered by the Opening Committee which is appointed by the Special Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee and they will be evaluated based on the special guidelines on Divestiture of State-Owned Enterprises approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in July 2023.

International Finance Corporation will continue to advise the GOSL as the Transaction Advisers for the divestiture of SriLankan Airlines.
