Six prison officers allegedly buy heroin from suspect

A woman from Dangolla, Kandy, who was arrested for alleged drug trafficking and is being interrogated on a detention order obtained by the Courts has told Police that six prison officers working at Dumbara Prison in Pallekele buy narcotics from her on a weekly basis.

Based on the information that there also may be prison guards engaged in the sale of drugs in the prison, the Police have planned to get statements from the officers mentioned by the woman.

The concerned woman has told the Police that some prison officials buy about 15 grams of heroin from her per month. After arresting the suspect woman with two grams of heroin, the Police obtained a detention order and she has revealed this information during interrogation.

Based on the information provided by the suspect, the Police have informed several prison officers to give a statement to the Police.
