Six proposals for Mattala Airport to assemble, repair aircraft

Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament yesterday that the government has received proposals from six investors to assemble and repair aircrafts at the Mattala Airport.

Replying to a question raised by MP Lalith Ellawala he said there are ways to make profit from commercial projects like the Mattala Airport.

The Minister further said that proposals have been called from the private sectors for tasks such as assembly and repair of aircraft at Mattala Airport.So far six proposals have been received from investors in the private sector.

“It is true that this airport is making a loss. Some steps have been taken to make the airport profitable.The loss incurred by the Mattala airport is about Rs.2 billion and we have been able to reduce the loss to Rs.1.2 billion.Now more and more planes are arriving at Mattala,”he said.
