Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) Executive Director Manas Makeen said that CaFFE has been informed of an incident of election related violence from Moneragala, in the Dambagalla police area.
He said that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Candidate Indika Aththanayake who was returning home after addressing a series of pocket meetings, was waylaid and assaulted on the Dambagalla- Medagama Road on Sunday (3) night.
The victim who is receiving treatment at the Sirigala hospital in Moneragala, said that 6 persons travelling on 3 motorcycles had blocked his vehicle, thrown chillie powder on the drivers face, before dragging him out of the vehicle and assaulting him.
Makeen said CaFFE’s District Coordinator has reported that complaint 119/UTR/2024/11/8577, has been lodged at the Dambagalla Police.
