The Colombo District Court yesterday issued notices and summons on SJB leader Sajith Premadasa and its General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara ordering them to produce facts before the court on January 25 for not banning them from holding positions in the SJB.
Colombo Chief District Judge Purnima Paranagama issued this order after considering a case filed by State Minister Diana Gamage challenging the holding of positions in Samagi Jana Balawegaya against Opposition Leader, SJB President Sajith Premadasa and its Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara.
Petitioner Diana Gamage has cited in the petition that, according to the Constitution of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, a person who is a member of an outside party cannot be a member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
The complaint has indicated that Sajith Premadasa and Ranjith Madduma Bandara are working as members of another Party and they have filed a case before court regarding the disciplinary action taken against them by the United National Party before.
She has also mentioned in the complaint that since it appears that the defendants are working as members of another party, they are not capable of being members of Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
She has also requested court to issue an order preventing Sajith Premadasa and Ranjith Madduma Bandara from working in their positions in the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
