SJB must field corruption-free Parliamentary team for General Election- Mahara Organiser
Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Mahara electorate organiser Hasith Gunasekara,, emphasised the importance of forming a corruption-free Parliamentary team for the upcoming General Election.
He said such a team would be of immense benefit to effectively implement the future plans of the new President, who got a mandate from the people for campaigning on a corruption-free theme.
He made this statement addressing a public gathering in Mahara recently.
He further elaborated that, a new Parliamentary team free of corruption, will allow for smoother cooperation with the President’s team in areas which can be mutually agreed upon.
He said, however, the SJB will take a firm stand against decisions which will be harmful to the public interest. “Under the leadership of our leader Sajith Premadasa, it is essential that all members of our Party work towards securing a significant number of Parliamentary seats and achieving victory. Our leadership has consistently guided us to support any initiative that serves the people’s best interests and fulfills their aspirations”, he noted.
He further said, “At the same time, we will not hesitate to oppose any measures that cause distress to the public. We will act responsibly and take necessary steps in such instances.”
“The responsibility before the people at this moment is immense. They must choose the people who can be entrusted with the burden of their future. We must not forget the consequences of past decisions. It was our Party alone that rejected some of the detrimental decisions made by the previous Parliament. It is a source of pride that we had a team within our Party that stood against decisions that caused suffering to the people.”
“Therefore, I urge all of you to vote and ensure that a majority Parliamentary group, led by Sajith Premadasa, is elected this time to represent us in Parliament” he added.
