SL achieves export income of Rs. 334 million in April

At a time when the country’s economy, which had suffered a severe collapse, is moving in a better direction, Sri Lanka managed to achieve an export income of Rs. 334 million (US$ 1,114.22 million) in April this year.

According to data released by the Central Bank and Sri Lanka Customs, the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka recorded a 1.25 percent increase in the export income of goods and services in April this year compared to April 2023.

Provisional data released by Sri Lanka Customs show that merchandise export performance in April 2024 was US$ 813.81 million, a decrease of 4.1 percent compared to April 2023. Meanwhile, the estimated value of services exports for April 2024 was US$ 300.41 million, an increase of 19.28 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

The demand for export products, especially garments and textiles, tea, rubber and rubber-related products, and coconut and coconut-related products, was recorded more or less the same. In February, there was notable demand for garments and textiles, tea, rubber-related products, coconut-related products, diamonds, gems and jewellery, electronic components, spices and concentrated products, processed food and beverages, seafood, ornamental fish, vegetables, fruits, other export crops, flowers and foliage, boat products, and petroleum products. Sri Lanka exports its products to many countries worldwide, with the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, France, Australia, China, Japan, Turkey, and Switzerland being major importers.
