SLFP agrees to All Party Government

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will support and join the government only if an All Party Government is formed in collaboration with other parties, Party’s Treasurer MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna said.

He told the Daily News that the SLFP met President Ranil Wickremesinghe and presented  the series of proposals with regard to the formation of a all-party government to him yesterday.

“As a political party we have presented these proposals to the previous government too. However, they were not implemented yet,”he said.

“Our proposal to form a All Party Government includes so many positive ideas such as forming a National Council with a program planned for a given time frame and obtaining the contribution of the experts and the real members of the ongoing struggles for the governance of the country”, the MP added. According to him, the President has responded to these proposals in a positive manner. He will also discuss this matter with the other political parties in the coming weeks. Alagiyawanna further said that the SLFP stressed the President the need to implement the proposed amendment to the Constitution and the President assured that it will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers next week.
