SLIM gets CMI-accreditation

The SLIM Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing (PGdip) has obtained CMI-accreditation, making it a globally recognised qualification SLIM President Gayan Perera told media on Monday in Colombo.

Perera said the mandate of SLIM as the national body of marketing incorporated by a parliamentary act in 1980 and existing for over 53 years is to establish marketing as the key driving force towards economic prosperity. To make marketing perform this task the country needs competent marketers.

“Therefore, as the national marketing body our primary task is to develop competent marketers in this country. That is where marketing education comes into play, being our key strategic pillar.”

He said their core programme is the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing in the education portfolio and so far, what they lacked was the UK accreditation and with this partnership with CMI they have achieved that making this a significant milestone and this marks a new journey. He said SLIM cannot be complacent saying it is a National Body but needs to cater to the market requirements as well. If the requirement is to get international recognition and people pursue internationally recognized education SLIM too should follow that path, he said.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) is the apex body for Sri Lankan Marketers, which was founded in 1970 and subsequently incorporated by an act of Parliament in 1980, recognising it as the National Body for Marketing and a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation.
