SLPA recognizes the services of media personalities

The Sri Lanka Press Association (SLPA) which was established in 1955 conducted its 68th annual convention recently at BMICH under the patronage of Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana.

Sri Lanka’s eminent journalists including Thilakaratna Kuruwita Bandara, Muditha Kariyakarawana, Thilak Senanayaka, Dr. Anura C Perera, K. Ariyasighe, Ananda Kannangara, P.M. Senaratana, Chula Bandara Bannahaka, Julian Samarasinghe, Cyril Ariyapala, Mali Yasantha Gabrial, Somasiri Ranhaluge, Raja Gaunasinghe and Thilanka Kanakaratna were felicitated at the ceremony.

Colombo University Sinhala Department Prof. Sandagomi Coperahewa made the keynote address. In addition several other media personalities in the calibre of former Dinamina Editor Pushpa Rowel and nine other veteran journalists in the yesteryear who immensely contributed to the media field were also felicitated.

Speaking at the event Minister Gunawardana highly commended the names of the late Ven. Udakendawala Siri Saranankara Thera and the late D.F. Kariyakarawana for the tireless effort they took to establish the SLPA and said conducting such events would further strengthen the role of media personnel in the country.
