The inaugural rally of Namal Rajapaksa, the Presidential candidate for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), is set to take place today (21) in Anuradhapura, marking the official launch of his campaign to secure victory in the upcoming Presidential Election.
The rally, scheduled to begin at 2 pm in the Kadapanaha area of Anuradhapura, has been organised expecting a large number of participants. The event will see the attendance of key SLPP representatives, including the party leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as well as representatives from various political groups and trade unions.
Namal Rajapaksa, the youngest candidate in the 2024 presidential race, is expected to receive widespread support from political parties, trade unions and civil organisations, according to SLPP sources.
An SLPP spokesman said that Namal Rajapaksa had instructed party organisers not to bring in crowds from other provinces for this rally.He emphasised the importance of not wasting the time and money of people by transporting them from distant regions.
He further stated that while some factions within the SLPP might have aligned with the current President, the grassroots support remains firmly with the SLPP and all ground-level supporters have reunited with the party.
