SLPP’s vision is practical and focused on people’s needs – Namal
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said that his party does not make empty political promises like others and is committed to delivering on what is feasible. He highlighted that his vision is practical and focused on the people’s needs.
Addressing a public rally held in Mahara, Gampaha, on Saturday (8), he asserted, “My party is a force that aims to build the nation, protect it, and shape it for future generations. We have always made political decisions based on the people’s needs and aspirations.”
Rajapaksa further acknowledged the challenges faced by Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government saying, “Mahinda Rajapaksa’s era was the most glorious period in Sri Lankan politics. But then, Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to inherit a country that was far behind what Mahinda Rajapaksa had left, and on top of that he also had to face the COVID-19 challenge. But when major countries around the world were collapsing due to the pandemic, we took steps to save lives such as manufacturing 10,000 beds during that time.”
Rajapaksa further stated, “We will introduce new industries to every regional division. We will focus on creating jobs in the IT sector. Not only are we attracting investors to Sri Lanka, centering on the Port City, Lotus Tower, and technology villages, but we will also provide the students the freedom of choosing between Advanced Level and higher education after the Ordinary Level exams. Our goal is to create two million jobs in the domestic and foreign markets within the next 10 years.”
“We will preserve free healthcare and modernise the health system, integrating technology into procurement and tender processes. All hospitals will be networked to efficiently manage drug shortages and patient care. We will focus on quality and cost when procuring medicines, using technology rather than relying on individuals. We will create a system that ensures quality healthcare and free medicine, regardless of changes in government. We will consult with medical associations to determine the needs of hospitals based on population and provide the necessary facilities.”
“We will simplify the tax system, implementing a straightforward tax policy that is fair to both the government and the people. We have presented a clear vision and policy, focusing on national unity and a society based on Buddhist principles while protecting all cultures. We are not making unrealistic promises. Our vision is practical. We ask for your support to provide a leadership that values elders, respects parents, and is centered on culture.”
