South Korean businessman meets Minister, shows interest in fisheries

Leading South Korean businessman Kang met Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda and held discussions in connection with investment opportunities in the Sri Lankan fisheries sector.

This meeting was held at the Fisheries Ministry last week (29).

At the meeting discussions were held regarding the investments in the sectors such as fish feed, sea food factories and the building of fishing boats. Kang pointed out that he wishes to build this factory at Oluvil Fisheries Harbour premises.

The Korean businessman said that he is enthusiastic in investing in Sri Lanka and he is prepared to invest Billions of rupees, if the Fisheries Minister provides assistance.

The Minister said that the measures have already been taken to develop Oluvil Fisheries Harbour and instructed the Ministry officials to make arrangements to build these factories under the harbour development programme. The Minister further said that this factory should be commenced under the Board of Investment and he would take necessary measures in consultation with the Commerce Ministry.

Fisheries Ministry Secretary Indu Rathnayake, the representatives and the Sri Lankan co-ordinator of Kang attended the discussion.
