Two special Police teams have been deployed to investigate the disappearance of a 24-year-old mother and her 11-month-old baby who disappeared suspiciously two days ago.
Panadura Division SSP Samantha Wedage said Vasana Kumari and her only daughter Tashmi Dilanya, who were residing in a house in Uruthudawa area in Aguruwathota had gone missing.
He said that the ex-army soldier, who is the brother-in-law of the missing woman’s husband (his sister’s husband), who was taken into Police custody on suspicion regarding the incident, was questioned and released as no important information had come to light.
The husband of the missing woman had come to the Anguruwathota Police on July 18 night and complained to Police that his wife and her 11-month-old daughter were missing from the house and that his brother-in-law had also visited them in the evening.
He had also mentioned in his complaint that his wife had told him on two occasions a few days ago that the brother-in-law was visiting when he the husband was not at home and that his presence was a nuisance.
Police officers who had arrived in the house had found, in the kitchen area of the house where the young mother resided, several stains on the refrigerator door and some erased blood stains on the floor nearby, which had given rise to suspicions that something had happened in the house.
